Why BSL
Haiku and British Sign Language .
There are some Deaf poets who have tried to create haiku in sign languages. While some aspects of sign languages are suitable to be expressed in a haiku form (both haiku and sign languages are visual, and capable of expressing many things in a short span of time), other aspects go against the nature of haiku (sign languages are highly emotional and expressive). The ultimate goal of my PhD dissertation is to prove (or disprove) the notion of "sign languages being an ideal vehicle for haiku"
